It’s got great leads, a director who’s great at action, and a decent story, and you’ve got Retaliation. Retaliation looks and sounds so much better than Rise of Cobra. The action of the action sequences in Paris is the only redeeming factor of the film. There is one sequence in Rise of Cobra that does hot on all cylinders. Marlon Wayan’s as comic relief is actually more enjoyable. If John M Chu and The Rock had not signed off, I could see the second film being direct to video.Ĭhanning Tatum just can’t hold the lead of a feature film. If it weren’t for The Rock and a bit of Bruce Willis, GI JOE Retaliation would not have been good in the slightest. I know you should never discount a second film just because of the first.
I’m sad to say that Rise of Cobra does not hold up. The second film looks great, but they are very skimpy on special features. I have to say that I was never a fan of the GI JOE films.
